photographer for over 25 years, Bernard Brault captures both motion and
emotion in his pictures.
Specializing in sports, Bernard Brault begins his career in 1976 at Le Courrier du Sud, a newspaper serving the south shore of the island of Montreal. From 1981 to 1986, the news agencies UPC(United Press Canada) and REUTERS are his main employers. Since 1984 he has been a staff photographer for one of the largest French language dailies in America, La Presse. He is also a regular contributor to magazines such as Golf Canada, Golf International, Score Magazine, En Route, Les Canadiens, Motomag and others. Regular clients include Vancouver 2010, the RCGA, the Grand Prix du Canada and many others. Since 1981 Bernard Brault has received many prizes and honorable mentions.(more than 200 from 4 different continents). To mention just a few, he receives, in France, first prize in the International Best Sports Photo contest for 1985. In the United States the NPPA(National Press Photographers Association) awards him third place in its Sports category in 1988. He has recieved prizes from organizations in Spain and China. In 1996 he is named photgrapher of the year by the Eastern and Western Canadian News Photographers Association(ECNPA and WCNPA). Recently he won the grand prize in a contest organized by L’Escale Nautique. The recognition of his talent has led Bernard Brault to present conferences to various organizations across Canada. He has also had major photo exhibits at Montreal’s Complexe Desjardins, including one on the Lillehammer Olympic Games and one on the 20 Formula One Grand Prix of Canada races held in Montreal since 1978. An exhibit of photos from 20 years of professional tennis in Montreal was also held at Jarry Park. Bernard Brault photographed his first Olympic games in Lillehammer, Norway in 1994. Since then, for his newspaper La Presse, he has covered the Olympic Games of Atlanta(1996), Nagano(1998), Sydney(2000) and Salt Lake City(2002). A collection of more than 125 of Braults’ Olympic Games photos are published in the book «Les Québécois à Lillehammer, published by Éditions de l’Homme. Although specializing in sports photography Bernard Brault also excells at coverage of news, arts, fashion and portraiture. |
